New GBT Charging Interface Is Exposed, CHADEMO Develops New Standards with China

ZZPosted by Felix on Thursday, September 7, 2023 , under | comments (0)

As it is reported by Electrek, on April 24, CHAdeMO Association and China Electricity Council have jointly released the new version of the CHAdeMO GBT fast-charging standard-CHAdeMO 3.0.

The CHAdeMO 3.0 charger is smaller and its cable size will be reduced. It uses the same plug as the GBT charging protocol, and also adopts liquid cooling technology to cool the charger.

The DC charging power of the vehicles using CHAdeMO 3.0 standard can exceed 500 KW (the maximum current is 600 A). The CHAdeMO 3.0 is also compatible with the previous CHAdeMO version, GBT charging, CCS and other fast-charging systems of different standards. In addition, the CHAdeMO standard also supports bidirectional charge and discharge from the beginning. This feature is not available in the current mainstream CCS fast charge standard.

Currently, China and Japan are cooperating on the new fast-charging standard, and India is also expected to become a new partner. According to CHAdeMO, South Korea and some other Southeast Asian countries have also shown strong interest in such charging technology.

The biggest difference between CHAdeMO and the current mainstream CCS standard is that the CHAdeMO standard is designed with a core function of two-way charging-discharge from the beginning, which can not only charge electric vehicles, but also recycle the power and sell it back to the grid.

Once China and Japan have reached an agreement on the fast-charging standard, CCS will lose its leading position.

It is said that the CHAdeMO 3.0 standard test requirements will be released within a year.

In the past, the CCS standard has always prevailed in the industry; however, with the release of the CHAdeMO 3.0 standard, the war of global fast-charging standard will start again. Though the CHAdeMO 3.0 charger is smaller, it is capable of charging up to 500 kW, thereby making itself very competitive.

In addition, as China, the largest consumer market for electric vehicles, will also adopt the CHAdeMO 3.0 standard, CCS may lose its leading position in the field of fast-charging standards.

How to Choose the New Energy Vehicle Charging Extension Cable?

ZZPosted by Felix on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 , under | comments (0)

If you do not have the charging conditions, you need to use the electric vehicle cable to connect the home socket with the portable electric charger through the door and window to realize the electric car charging. Then the car charging extension cable is very important to you. So how should the EV extension cable of new energy vehicles be selected and used? There are three possible versions for you to choose from below.

1. Basic version of EV extension cable

According to the existing conditions, a single car charging extension cable can be purchased according to the specifications written on your electric car charger, for example, if 220V 8A (1.5KW) is written on the charger, then you can equip it with the corresponding basic version of EV extension cable for 220V charger.

2. Fast charging version of EV extension cable

Just consider changing to a portable ev charger. Before the replacement, you can check the maximum charging power in your car. Under normal circumstances, it is at least about 3.3 kilowatts. In this way, the charging time can be reduced by half, but the corresponding wire also needs to be increased to 4 square meters, and it is necessary to check whether the socket (16A) in the house is also the incoming wire of 4 square meters and whether the connector is stable.

3. Luxurious version of EV extension cable (charging protection)

Separate a dedicated line from the wire line at homemwith a remote intelligent control relay protector of more than 5 kilowatts in the middle (you can remotely turn on and off the power, check the circuit status, there is protection of leakage, lack of power, overload, and voltage), once In the event of an abnormal situation, the power can be automatically cut off in time, and the real-time current, voltage, and power can be viewed. In this way, you can leave the purchased EV extension cable outside, without worrying about leakage, stealing, and avoiding repeated plugging and unplugging.

In layman's terms, charging a car is equivalent to charging a giant power bank. Inferior charging heads, charging guns, inferior sockets, and unstable voltage lines will all harm your car. As a professional manufacturer of electric vehicle charging cables, AG Electrical can provide you with the safest and highest quality EV extension cables.

How Do We Know if an EV Charger is Broken?

ZZPosted by Felix on Monday, September 4, 2023 , under | comments (0)

 1. External causes of damage to electric vehicle chargers

Electric car chargers have a normal life of 5-8 years. In fact, electric car chargers are mature products, difficult to damage, most of the damage is caused by external causes. The peak time of charger damage is during the hot, rainy and humid summer.

The external cause is: the charging environment is not well ventilated and high temperature, it’s easy to burn the charger for a long time. The electric vehicle charger fan is damaged and cannot dissipate heat, causing high temperature damage to the charger. Get caught in the rain or brush the electric car charger into water, resulting in a short circuit inside the charger burned out. Power plug long-term bad contact, voltage instability resulting in damage to the charger. There are also cases where the 220 volt electric car charger is connected to 380V by mistake, it resulting in high-voltage breakdown of the charger components.

2. Common sense of fault detection (low voltage below 96V)

The current electric car chargers are mostly intelligent chargers. During the test, the output terminal must be connected to the battery, and the charger will normally output current only when it recognizes the voltage, if not connected, the output is 0. For 48V charger, the terminal voltage of the battery is lower than 42V, the charger does not work. For a 60V charger, the terminal voltage of the battery is lower than 52.5V, the charger does not work. For 72V charger, the battery terminal voltage is lower than 63V, the charger does not work. The old chargers will burn if they are connected in the opposite direction. The new charge has reverse connection protection, if the positive and negative chargers are connected in reverse, they will just not run, will not damage the portable ev charger.

3. Can electric car chargers be repaired?

The answer is yes, it can be repaired. As long as the electric car charger is not

filled with potting inside, it can be repaired. And it is recommended that the ordinary charger of a low speed car should not be repaired. Now a new charger is very cheap, high efficiency, good quality, and energy saving. It is also more intelligent and does not save money on repair.

As one of professional ev charging suppliers, AG Electrical reminds you that you need to use the correct way of electric vehicle maintenance.

What is a Type 2 charging cable?

ZZPosted by Felix on Sunday, September 3, 2023 , under | comments (0)

What Is A Type 2 Electric Car Cable?

A type 2 car charging cable is the European-standard plug-type used by every new electric car. It features a seven-pin connection at both ends, which allows you to easily plug in to every home wallbox, and most public car chargers. The type 2 ev charger cable allows for slower AC charging (up to 43kW), rather than DC rapid charging, which requires a CCS connection.

Type 2 Charging Plug Cable Application Scenarios

The charging cable type 2 allows you to top-up at the slower ‘destination’ chargers you typically find in shopping centres, gyms and town car parks. Tesla cars are the exception, as they use a Type 2 connection to rapid charge – albeit at Tesla Superchargers only – this is a network of chargers that are only available to Teslas.

Tesla Type 2 Cable

At any standard, free-to-all Type 2 charger (which includes every charging point provider other than the Tesla Supercharger network), a Tesla would charge just as slowly as any other electric car. All pure-electric cars come with a Type 2 socket and cable as standard. All plug-in hybrids have a Type 2 socket, but some manufacturers charge extra for a cable.

What is a GB/T Charger?

ZZPosted by Felix on Saturday, September 2, 2023 , under | comments (0)

 1. Charging standards for mainstream electric vehicles

Thanks to the boom in the new energy industry, the electric vehicle charger industry also develops rapidly. Many countries engage in fierce competition specific to the electric vehicle charger market, among which the main one is the electric vehicle charging standard. At present, there are three main groups of charging standards for new energy vehicles: Type1 (American standard); Type2 (European standard), utilizing the SAE J1772 standard led by the international society of automotive engineers (SAE); and GB/T, Chinese standard as well as CHAdeMO (Japanese standard), first introduced in 2010 by the Japan Electric Vehicle Association and the Japan Electric Vehicle Charging Association.

As the name implies, the GBT Charger   of AG ELECTRICAL is based on the Chinese standard.

2. GB/T standard

On December 28, 2015, five newly revised national standards for charging interfaces and communication protocols for electric vehicles were issued in Beijing by the Standardization Administration of the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine together with the National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The new standards took effect on January 1, 2016. The GB/T standard is divided into three parts: the general requirements, AC and DC and the communication between the charger and BMS, specifically listed as follows:

(1) GB/T 18487.1-2015 Conducting Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles – Part 1: General Requirements

(2) GB/T 20234.1-2015 Connectors for Conducting Charging for Electric Vehicles – Part 1: General Requirements

(3) GB/T 20234.2-2015 Connectors for Conducting Charging for Electric Vehicles – Part 2: Alternating Current Charging Interfaces

(4) GB/T 20234.3-2015 Connectors for Conducting Charging for Electric Vehicles – Part 3: Direct Current Charging Interfaces

(5) GB/T 27930-2015 Communication Protocol between Off-board Conductive Charger and Battery Management System of Electric Vehicle

The introduction of GB/T standard improves the safety and compatibility of charging.

(1) Security

GB/T standards increase the functions like charging interface temperature monitoring, electronic lock, insulation monitoring, discharge circuit, etc., elaborate the vehicle interface of DC charging security protection measures and explicitly prohibit unsafe charging mode application. Thanks to the efforts, personnel electric shock, equipment combustion and other accidents are effectively avoided, and the safety of electric vehicles and users during charging are guaranteed.

(2) Compatibility

The type and structure of AC-DC charging interface are compatible with the original standard. The GB/T standard modifies the size of some contacts and mechanical locks, but the new and old plugs and sockets can cooperate with each other, and the electronic locking device added to the DC charging interface does not affect the electrical connection between the new and old products. Users only need to update the communication protocol version to realize the basic charging function of new power supply equipment and electric vehicles.

The GB T charging   cable manufactured by AG ELECTRICAL complies with the regulations and requirements of GB/T20234.2-2015 and GB/T18487.1-2015, which, with higher compatibility, can charge all electric vehicles made in China and correctly and effectively convert them to applicable point current.

What are the Reference Standards for Charging Cables for Electric Vehicles?

ZZPosted by Felix on Friday, September 1, 2023 , under | comments (0)

With the energy structure adjustment, the electric vehicle industry will show explosive growth, which will significantly stimulate the rapid development of the power transmission and distribution industries, and electric vehicle charging companies will develop rapidly.

Based on ensuring excellent insulation performance, electric vehicle cables should be equipped with superior heat resistance and aging resistance. Besides, they should have good low-smoke and flame-retardant properties during combustion to ensure that losses and damage are minimized.

Nowadays, electric car charging cable products are mainly based on the American ANSI/NFPA/NECArticle400, the European harmonized document HD22, etc. The vast majority of charging cable products are based on the two standards IEC60245 and IEC60227 issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The Article400 charging cable standard in the United States was formulated relatively early, mainly based on the product standard established by the UL62 flexible cable standard of the United States UL Company. The insulating materials specified in the standard include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), and polypropylene. Ethylene (EPR) and other materials, sheath materials include PVC, chlorinated polyethylene (CPE), TPE, and other materials. There are many types of materials and models in the standard, and most of the specific structural parameters are consistent with UL cable products. It is relatively broad, and there are no strict restrictions on materials and structures, as long as it can meet the charging cable's necessary performance requirements. Electric vehicle charging cable products produced and manufactured in Europe are mainly manufactured in accordance with the European standard coordination documents HD22.4 and HD22.12. HD22.4 specifies ethylene-propylene rubber insulated and ethylene-propylene rubber/chloroprene rubber and its equivalent mixture sheathed flexible cables with rated voltages of 450/750V and below. In contrast, HD22.12 specifies heat-resistant ethylene-propylene rubber insulated, and ethylene-propylene rubber/chloroprene rubber and its equivalent mixture sheathed flexible cables with rated voltages of 450/750V and below.

Since the requirements for the use of electric vehicle charging cables are different from traditional wires and cables, the current wire and cable standards are difficult to cover all the needs for charging cables. Therefore, it is necessary to formulate special charging cable product standards to promote the industry's healthy development.
