Overview
It’s the middle part of the movie, the director arranges a dispute here, it’s the first and the only altercation between Lenny and Natalie in this film. In this part, Natalie walk into the house, first hide all the pens in the room to her bag, then get angry with Lenny, humiliate Lenny’s wife. As a result, Lenny goes mad, hit badly on Natalie’s face and knock her on the ground, Natalie stop shouting, walking out the house with blood on her face and the bag within pens, then sit in the car. After watch Natalie walking out, Lenny try to find a pen to make a note about Natalie, but all the pens are in Natalie’s bag. With the sound that Natalie close the car’s door, Lenny’s disease attack him again.

This sense is about a strong black guy hold a big music video “fight” with some white guys. It happed on the street. There are some white guy talking and playing on the street. They listen to some fashion music. There is a black guy hold a big music video and come to the white guys place. He get two special ring in each of his hand. One is word “hate”. The other one is word “love”。 He turns his video sounds bigger than the white guy music. He wants to make his pop/rap music ‘stronger’ than the white people music. He think that he is doing the right thing. The white people also turn their sound bigger. They want to fight with the black guy. But compare with the black guys music. their sound are too small . So in the end . The black guy “win” the game . He looks very happy. After that . He run away with a black child.
Color: the color is about red and orange. That make people feeling hot and crazy. I think it also meaning about the black people always looks very outside. Happy . Hot . and strong . Some of them always crazy and good at talking. Some of them always very noise. That is why the warm color use for here.
Time: the time is about 4 minutes. This is a good time to tell a small story in this movie.
Music: the music are very loudly in this sense. They use some loudly rap music and fashion music. Some time the music are mixed. It sounds like the music have a “fight” with each other.

It’s the part Natalie get anger, in the whole movie, Natalie always be nice to Lenny, stay with Lenny, help him finding the killer and support him all the way. But in this part, what Natalie do tells us what she really want. At the time Lenny first meet Natalie, tell her about his condition, Natalie want to try if it’s real, tell Lenny spit in a cup and drink it, that’s shows Natalie is not a tradition good person. In this scene, Natalie piss Lenny off and made him hit on her face, in order to carry out her plan.
In this part Lenny also tell us he just tool in someone’s mind. As Natalie said: ”I can say your wife a fucking whore and we still be friends.” That’s means any one smart person can use Lenny’s motivation to do something illegal, maybe Jimmy is the same as Natalie.
In this scene, director cut camera shots between actor and actress, in this way, audiences can catch their expression clearly, Natalie shows her rage straightforward, and we also can see how poor is Lenny, because of his disease, he doesn’t know what’s going on, at begin, he open his lgnorant eyes and try to find out what’s the matter, but the smart Natalie already deal with it beforehand, then Lenny fall to remember what he shouldn’t forget. In another hand, Lenny love his wife so much, try his best to protect his wife’s dignity, but he will forget how Natalie treat to his wife minutes later any way, all his exertion will disappear immediately.
At last, Lenny can not control himself, beat Natalie’s face badly. Natalie fall down on the ground, and her stop humiliate Lenny’s lover, because Natalie already got her purpose, and get ready for next step, in her eyes, Lenny is a tool which can be control, what Natalie do is do the right thing.
From this scene, we know Lenny just a piece in Natalie’s eyes, a tool that can be discarded any time. How about others look at Lenny, are they truly help Lenny or look at him as a piece, too. And we begin to ask ourselves: Is Jimmy really a good cop? Or is Jimmy a cop?

The reason why I choose this scene is because that it stands for the basic filming skills in the whole movie industry. I think the scene I have choose is the normal but typical part in this movie.
1 Cinematic techniques
1.1 Size of shot
Close-up: It is used to show the emotion of the main character clearly. Because it is in the small room, most of the time the Close-up is frequently used.
2 Mise en scène
"Mise en scène" refers to what is colloquially known as "the Set," but is applied more generally to refer to everything that is presented before the camera. In this scene, I just feel that I was sitting in the sofa to sing with the actors as if I was personally on the scene. It provide a sense of reality. It makes the movie more reasonable according to the vision logic of human beings.

3.1 Bird's eye shot: 00:46:40
It shows where the place is located in. From this point of view, we could know that this scene is happened in a tall building at night. Actually most time, the bird's eye view is used to set up a general environment of a scene or the general background of the story.
3.2 Low angle shot: 00:46:59
It is a shot from a camera positioned low on the vertical axis, anywhere below the eyeline, looking up. I think this angle is used to show the happiness of the actor. It is a really interesting shot. And in this scene, the actor is facing to the camera, it seems that the audience is a part of this movie. It has the sense of reality.
3.3 Point of view shot: though out the whole scene
It seems that a character in the movie is looking at the camera. It is usually established by being positioned between a shot of a character looking at something, and a shot showing the character's reaction. Sometimes the point-of-view shot is taken over the shoulder of the character (third person), who remains visible on the screen. It is an interactive with the audience. It provides the sense of reality. And people can feel how the actor feels in the movie.

It shifts the attention of a viewer of this film by changing the focus of the lens from a subject in the foreground to a subject in the background. I think the function of this shot is standing for the eye contact of the main actor and actress. As an audience, this transition leads us to focus on different expression by the director. And it is quite a popular technique in nowadays.
3.5 Pan and Tilt: Through out the whole scene
In photography, panning refers to the horizontal movement or rotation of a still or video camera, or the scanning of a subject horizontally on video or a display device. Panning a camera results in a motion similar to that of someone shaking their head "no" or of an aircraft performing a yaw rotation. However, Tilting is a cinematographic technique in which the camera is stationary and rotates in a vertical plane. They are both the camera movement and functional. Pan could used to describe the movement of the actor. Tilt is more interesting, and it could used to be the beginning of the whole movie to attract the audience's eyes.
4 Lighting technique and aesthetics
Actually I can't find any lighting techniques in this scene I have chosen except the natural lighting in the environment, because it is filmed indoor. In my opinion, there must be the lighting techniques in this scene, and the lighting here is probably used to fill the light in order to make this scene more colorful. And it is easy for the director catch the face of every actor in this movie.

This cutting is usually used in the conversation between two characters' talking. It is also an interactive inside the film. It makes the movie more interesting and reasonable according to the human logic.

It includes voices of characters and source music, represented as coming from instruments in the story space. In this scene, it successfully expresses the mood of the main actress and actor in this moment.
7 Dialogue
The dialogue in this scene is the lyric of the song that they are singing. Actually this is what they want to express when they see each other. This is a form to add the happy atmosphere in this movie. And it successes. This is probably the most interesting part of this whole movie.
8 Color
The color in this scene is normal except the hair color of the main actress, and the color is pink. I feel so unexpected about this pink color. Maybe director wants to express the personality of the actress on purpose. And the main actress is really special in this scene, especially the spirit she spreads. I think every audience could feel it.

I. SCENE OVERVIEW:
It is the beginning of the movie, Sofia Coppola uses a quite smart way the introduce the background of this movie which is using voiceover which about a lady, she said welcome to Tokyo with the strong Japanese accent, it tells us this story will happen in Tokyo and the strong Japanese accent buries a hint foreshadowing which is Bob will feel unaccustomedness in the Tokyo, because he is a foreigner from western country.

After this scene, the background music ring, it is a soft and slow lady’s voice with the sad emotion, why Sofia Coppola choose this style of melody, because at the beginning of movie, she want use a piece of music to demonstrate the inner emotion of Bob, he sitting in the car with the tired and confused look and with piece of sad, slow music, it makes audience feel heavy heart while they which this sense.
Depth of Field:
This scene has been built by two shots, which is Bob’s face and street view and the Tokyo street view is quite beautiful, but the main character is Bob, how to let audience pay attention on Bob, not street view ? So Sofia Coppola uses a clever way to deal with this problem which is Depth of Field, she makes the background (street) blur, that audience can focus on Bob’s face, and catch the emotion of Bob, but at the same time, audience can still see the beautiful street and colorful neon light, it makes the contrast.

At the beginning, Sofia Coppola uses close up to focus on Bob’s face, that audience can catch or guess the some information at the beginning of movie straight way, such as who is the main character, and from Bob’s face, audience maybe can guess part of movie theme that Sofia Coppola want to express which is lonely or something.
Camera movement:
Camera here is using dolly, why Sofia Coppola uses this technical?
Because camera no any movement and Bob just sitting there and looking outside from the window, it will makes the movie quite boring because audience can only see on scene, but here uses the dolly, Bob relative to the car is no ant movement, so everything looks quite, it makes audience feel silence, and relative to the street, Bob can see variety of street view, which makes the big contrast.
Camera angle:
Then the camera becomes medium shot
Audience all know Bob is sitting in a car, and this scene likes suspense, people may think Bob will go some where, and Bob is looking outside from the window and people will guess maybe Bob will see something later, this scene grab audience’s eyes, and makes audience really want to know what happen next, it is a great way to catch attention.
Next Sofia Coppola uses the other shot type which is call “point of view”

We talked about Sofia Coppola makes a question at the medium shot, so she gives us the answer by using point of view, so we can know he sees alive Tokyo street, it makes a huge contrast between Bob and people in the street, so we can suddenly feel the lonely and helpless of Bob.
Camera angle: the camera angle is even close to eyes level.
And we can also know Bob sees an advertisement, and Bob is on this advertisement, the film so far, audience may know Bob is an idol, he came to Japan wants do something and he feels lonely and helpless.
This film just uses some simple shot type that introduces clearly the background of main character – Bob.
From Bob’s car window he can saw the Tokyo night. This shot is following the car moving and camera is long and full of them. The bustling cities and his mood contrast it. The mysterious city, he was so tired. The lens for night he was about this long and lonely travelling.
Sound:
Began to move the camera has following Bob’s taxi to let audience know what mind what his was. At this time, In addition to the car, it seems that we could hear the sound of his loneliness. Music has been very low and alone as the same with beginning. Bob want to how to get to the hotel have a good rest. This sound also prepare for next happening.
Lighting:
For the lighting, the scene is happen at night, and Sofia Coppola uses two different lighting here, one is in the car, Sofia Coppola uses quite dark light to express Bob’s tired and lonely emotion, dark lighting gives audience heavy heart, but outside the car window is the beautiful neon light, director wants use these beautiful lighting to introduce Tokyo, and these two lighting makes the huge contrast, which is the beautiful city and emotion of Bob.

Well, I watched the movie Cashback recently, this is the third time I watch this movie.
Cashback(2006), written and directed by Sean Ellis.
After the art student Ben Will break up with his girlfriend Suzy, he can't fall to sleep anymore, his life got extra 8hours everyday, after the two weeks no sleep days, Ben decide to work the late night shift at the local supermarket. He met some interesting friends there. During Ben working at supermarket, he realize that he has ability to let the time freeze.
It's a short movie, I love the way the director cut and edit the movie, the transition in this movie is really interesting and unique. and use lots of slow motion, speed contract to show the story.
(It's a really really good movie~~hope you guys to watch it.)

Memento is a Psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan.
Lenny is a main character who has suffering from short-term memory loss, use notes, photos and tattoos to hunt for the man who killed his wife. He doesn’t want to face the truth is he kills his wife by accident. He chooses forget and forged a fake memory, because he feels painful and guilty. He always tries to find the murder, however he already killed that guy. Revenge is the power to encourage him to continue his live. This propped up the meaning of his life.
In this scene, we will explore the Lenny tries to lie to himself. He creates a fake story about Sammy and his wife. But the story he tells is what happen between him and his wife.
2. Scene Analysis

Setting: Hospital
Properties: Chair, Table, desk, plant, door
Color: It is black and white color in this shot. Director uses Black and White to express Lenny’s past. Also it is use black and white color express Lenny’s condition.
Sound: The sound type is use people talk. Lenny talks in the phone with someone, he tells that guy what happen to Sammy. In this part, he just likes a narrator to tell a story to audience.
Music: It has background music when Sammy sits in the hospital, the music is match with the scene cause make the mysterious felling about Sammy’s problem. It will let audience more pay attention on this part.
Dialogue: The dialogue in this scene is Lenny talk in the phone with someone. The dialogue is clearly to tell audience what happen on Sammy. That is what Lenny’s story in his mind and how his wife dies. It gives audience an important message.
Lighting: However it is black and white color in the shot. But there has a sunshine come thought window in hospital. The sunshine is behind Sammy. It is highlights of his lonely and poor.
Contrasting area: Foreground much visible than the background, especially when the camera move to Sammy face the background become blur, so it more contrast, the main character become more clearly.

Character Movement: Sammy sits on the chair and looking around. Sammy’s eyes follow other people who walks pass him.
Character Relationship: Sammy is Lenny’s client, Lenny thinks Sammy got short-memory issue and he has kill his wife by accidently. He tells everyone Sammy’s story, but the true is Sammy is Lenny, he lie to himself about his wife’s die.
Editing
Editing style: Some frames use short sequence, such like a guy who walk pass front Sammy, then suddenly Sammy become Lenny. It used to show the interest part, if director didn’t add this scene, the movie will make audience more confuse about the story. Some frames use long sequence, it is used to show where character is and use setting to express character’s condition.
Transition: First, Sammy sits in the hospital and it jump cut to Lenny talk in the phone, then it back to Sammy sit in the hospital. It uses a two frames become one. It is effect on the audience. It is a little bit makes all movies more complicate and more interesting.
At 1:30:00. Director use a guy who walk pass front Sammy to be transition.
Cinematography
Shot type: In this scene, the director has uses three different shot type. Close up (when Lenny talk in the phone) used to show Lenny’s emotion. Zoom in (When Sammy sit in the hospital, then camera start zoom in) used to show let audience know how the condition around character. Medium shot (Sammy look people who walk pass him) it is show the character body language and how character situation is.
Camera Angle: The camera angle is on eye level 1. It doesn’t change to use another angle. It puts character in the middle of the screen.
Camera movement: In this scene first, camera is slowly zoom in to character half body. And know what character’s movement and changing.
Depth of Field: In this scene, the focus is in the Sammy and Lenny.
Timing: In this shot, director use 18 second to zoom in Sammy from whole body to half body. Then he just use 1 second to show audience, Sammy is Lenny. It will give audience an answer that Lenny tries to lie to himself. But if audience didn’t real catch up on that second, they will lose an important message. That is amaze timing.
Total composition: The whole composition shows how Lenny is think about Sammy’s question, he talk about Sammy’s situation.
Deconstructed Meaning: This scene shows Lenny tells a story about his client Sammy. And what happen on Sammy, however he got short-term memory like Sammy. But he believes he better than Sammy. What he talks about Sammy is what is happen on Lenny himself. He makes up a story to lie to himself. He could not face to himself and he chooses to lie to himself.

In this film <MEMENTO>, the very begging part looks like a little boring couse the director used a long shot for a man’s hand holding a photo which has lots of blood in and it likes a horror film scene and this lasted for about 75 seconds.

Sound: The sound that used in the beginning is just like some other music in some ‘Legend Movie’ or ‘Hero Movie’. It makes the movie more mystery. Because lenny was the hero in this film.

Most used shot type in this part is also the close-up cause the director want us to see the details too. It is really good to use details to telling a story. That is the magic and special point of this movie.
Color: it is also the colored part, and there is a short camera lens to show it is in a back order.
The blood flows back in this scene. It is must be very strange but in this movie is very normal cause the colored part of this movie is in a back order and this scene in the beginning part indicate it very smart. Then the gun fly back to his hand and the bullet back into his gun can be explaned very reasonable.
Sound effect: The sound of shotting and take pictures and the sound of bullet fell on the ground.And also the background music.
Dialogue: Only one word ‘No!’ from the guy who killed by lenny.
The director likes to use details to show the background of this story instead using dialogues cause it will give audience a stronger impression than using a dialogue and also makes the film moremystery and full of curiosity. In most films, the beginning is using a dialogue to introduce the background of the story and using a long shots to show the settings where the story happened. This film is using a unusual way to shot and it lets me fell so refreshing. And It is much better to use details to give us the clues of the time line or the story.
