I choose the very beginning part from 00:00:45 to 00:01:33. The reason why I choose this part is couse I would like to see the begging of every movie, When I see the begging of a movie I will guess what will be happened next, what is the story this film talks about and what the hell the director want to tell us , is this movie so boring or funny. I am confused about this questions but it is also really exceting to guess the answers and you can get the answers after you see the whole movie.
In this film <MEMENTO>, the very begging part looks like a little boring couse the director used a long shot for a man’s hand holding a photo which has lots of blood in and it likes a horror film scene and this lasted for about 25 seconds. If you look carefully you will find that the photo’s color is becoming more and more light in next few images.
It's becoming more and more light then last pictures.
I got interest in this from I saw the beginning of the film becouse of the color shift. The director is very clever to use a long shot to show this color shift and use a close-up to give us this detail. When you see the whole movie you can know the photos is use to help Lenny remember things so it more likes his memory. The photo becoming light means his memory becoming light. And finally it becomes blank means he forgot this things so we can know maybe there are something wrong with his memory or he has some condition about the memory.But why there are lots of blood in the photo? Maybe someone had been killed, or perhaps it’s just some paint on the wall. These are all my imagine when I saw it.
Most shot type used in this very beginning part are close-up becouse it is good at show the details. So the director must wanna us pay attention to the details and get some informations from the details. And the most improtant thing is this movie is the details, director used the details to tell us the fact of this story, that is the magic and special point of this movie.
The blood flows back in this scene. It's must be very strange but in this movie is very normal cause the colored part of this movie is in a back order and this scene in the beginning part indicate it very smart. Then the gun fly back to his hand and the bullet back into his gun can be explaned very reasonable.
The next question is that why he killed this guy?
If the colored part is in a back order, this beginning part actually is the endding of the movie. So it gives us a strong wish to know the reason and find the it in the next 120 minutes.
Hey Tao - did you read the assessment sheet, or have a quick look at the sample scene analysis? They may help you to revise this, because it doesn't fit very well with those..it's up to you though...Cheers, A
