THE WALL:

3117-Scene Analysis

**Posted by Felix at 4:27 PM

Start from: 00:46:37

End with: 00:48:52

The reason why I choose this scene is because that it stands for the basic filming skills in the whole movie industry. I think this is the normal but typical part in this movie.

1 Cinematic techniques

1.1 Size of shot

Close-up: It is used to show the emotion of the main character. Because it is in the small room, most of the time the Close-up is frequently used.

2 Mise en scène

"Mise en scène" refers to what is colloquially known as "the Set," but is applied more generally to refer to everything that is presented before the camera. In this scene, I just feel that I was sitting in the sofa to sing with the actors as if I was personally on the scene.

3 Camera view, angle, movement, shot

3.1 Bird's eye shot: 00:46:40

It shows where the place is located in.

3.2 Low angle shot: 00:46:59

It is a shot from a camera positioned low on the vertical axis, anywhere below the eyeline, looking up. I think this angle is used to show the happiness of the actor. It is a really interesting shot.

3.3 Point of view shot: though out the whole scene

It seems that a character in the movie is looking at the camera. It is an interactive with the audience.

3.4 Racking focus: 00:46:37 ----- 00:48:00

It shifts the attention of a viewer of this film by changing the focus of the lens from a subject in the foreground to a subject in the background. I think the function of this shot is standing for the eye contact of the main actor and actress. As an audience, this transition leads us to focus on different expression by the director.

3.5 Pan and Tilt: Through out the whole scene

It is a camera movement and usually used to describe the environment.

4 Lighting technique and aesthetics

Actually I can't find any lighting techniques in this scene I have chosen except the natural lighting in the environment, because it is filmed indoor.

5 Editing and transitional devices

5.1 cutaway: 00:46:40

It shows where the place is located.

5.2 Shot reverse shot: 00:46:57 ---- 00:47:39

This cutting is usually used in the conversation between two characters' talking. It is also an interactive inside the film. It makes the movie more interesting and reasonable according to the human logic.

6 Sound

Diegetic sound: through out the whole scene

It includes voices of characters and source music, represented as coming from instruments in the story space.

7 Color
I think there is no special effects in this scene, but this is the funniest part in this depressed moive.
